Welcome to Generations: An International Symposium on Sensor Networks, Sensor Systems, and Security.

The symposium is jointly hosted by Florida Polytechnic University and Florida International University’s College of Engineering and Computing through the School of Computing and Information Sciences and will be held in beautiful Lakeland, Florida, at RP Funding Center (Hyatt Lakeland Convention Center). This international symposium will gather academic, industry and government experts in Sensor Networks, Sensor Systems, and Cyber Security as we lay the groundwork for the next generation of research innovations. Over the last 70 years, we have witnessed remarkable technological advances and innovations in computing which have paved the way for new disciplines and industrial development opportunities. More than five academic generations of new research scientists have been trained and taken up the mantel advancing research in these key areas. This meeting will provide the ideal opportunity for discussions, exchange of ideas, and development of thought for the present and next generations of computer scientists, computer engineers and network engineers involved in developing future secure, intraoperative Network Systems.

The symposia, workshops, keynote speeches, and panels have been carefully assembled to provide a worthwhile coverage of contemporary issues in these areas. In keeping with our theme of Generations, we will be honoring Dr. S. S. Iyengar for his 70th birthday at the event and the dinner on Friday night. Dr. S. S. Iyengar is one of the most eminent scholars of his generation, and has personally is a member of the European Academy of Sciences, winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award from ISAM-IIT (BHU), and is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a Fellow of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and Fellow of the Society for Design and Process Science (SDPS). He was awarded the Satish Dhawan Chaired Professorship at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Roy Paul Daniels Professorship at LSU, and is currently the Distinguished Ryder Professor and Director of the School of Computing and Information Sciences at Florida International University. He has received the Distinguished Alumnus Award of the Indian Institute of Science. In 1998, he was awarded the IEEE Computer Society’s Technical Achievement Award and is an IEEE Golden Core Member.

As part of the symposium, we will celebrate his long career by publishing a Festschrift of original publications. Interested scholars, former students, collaborators, students of subsequent generations, and others are invited to submit papers for review and inclusion. Three tracks are foreseen:

  1. Technical papers explaining advances in Dr. Iyengar’s areas of research,
  2. Papers that discuss his mentoring accomplishments and influence of students and peers, and
  3. Papers detailing the impact of his research on academia, government, and industry.

We invite you to join us through submission of your professional research papers, submission of one of the three tracks listed above, and/or registration for the symposium, and look forward to seeing all of you at the beautiful new Florida Polytechnic University campus!
